# What documents do I need to request a NISS?

## Proof of identity

#### If you are a citizen of a member country of the European Union:

You will need to provide a scanned image/picture of your **identity card**.

#### If you are a citizen of a country outside the European Union:

You will need to provide a scanned image/picture of your **passport**.

The scanned image/picture of your proof of identity must meet the following conditions to be accepted by the Portuguese authorities:

* Legible text - with full name available
* No shadows or reflections
* Signature fully visible
* Valid document (not expired)
* All corners must be present at the image
* Must be in high quality

## Portuguese NIF

A scanned copy of the **2 pages of your NIF document.**

## Proof of employment

Proof of employee or self-employed status is required and **must come from a Portuguese company**. This can be one of the following documents:

* an employment contract or;

* copy of the start of self-employment in Portugal and copy of receipts/invoices (at least 2) or;

* certificate of company registration from the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN).

## Proof of residence regularization request

**If you are a citizen of a member state of the European Union, you will need to provide:**

* CRUE document (Certificado do Registo de Cidadão da União Europeia)

**If you are a citizen of a country outside the European Union, you must provide one of the following documentation:**

* document certifying that you attended the AIMA appointment
* Portuguese permanent residence permit

* proof of residence visa application for citizens of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) or;

* proof of application for the Certificate of Granting Residence Authorization for CPLP citizens.
